Project Background
Qingyuan Wuzong Goose required an air filtration solution for its 1,000 m² food testing laboratory in Qingyuan, Guangdong.
Because the laboratory is located within a poultry processing environment, the air filtration system needed to provide a controlled supply of filtered air while also considering odor from the surrounding processing area.
DTAF designed a modular ceiling-mounted FFU system with H14 HEPA filters, with activated carbon filtration added as an additional solution for odor-related concerns.

FFU and H14 HEPA Filter Solution
The laboratory uses 1175 × 575 × 250 mm ceiling-mounted FFUs, each equipped with an H14 HEPA filter.
The modular FFU configuration allows filtered air to be distributed across the laboratory ceiling according to the room layout and functional areas.
The main filtration functions are:
- FFU: provides distributed filtered-air supply.
- H14 HEPA filter: provides high-efficiency particulate filtration.
- Activated carbon filter: addresses odor-related concerns from the surrounding environment.
This combination provides a practical air filtration approach for food testing laboratories located within poultry processing facilities.

Airflow Design for the 1,000 m² Laboratory
The laboratory has an area of approximately 1,000 m² and a clear height of 3.5 m, giving an estimated room volume of:
1,000 × 3.5 = 3,500 m³
Using a preliminary design basis of approximately 15 air changes per hour (ACH):
3,500 × 15 = 52,500 m³/heure
Assuming approximately 1,000 m³/h per FFU, the preliminary configuration is approximately 54 FFUs, providing a nominal total airflow of about 54,000 m³/heure.
The airflow and FFU quantity above are preliminary engineering calculations, not on-site commissioning measurements. Final configuration should be confirmed according to the actual layout, FFU specifications, chute de pression, and operating requirements.

H14 HEPA Filtration for Food Testing
H14 HEPA filters were selected as the primary high-efficiency particulate filtration stage for the laboratory.
The FFU and HEPA filter are integrated into the ceiling system to provide filtered supply air directly to the laboratory space.
For a food testing laboratory, this modular design also provides flexibility for future maintenance and filter replacement.

Additional Activated Carbon Filtration for Odor Concerns
The customer also had concerns about odor from the front-end poultry processing environment.
Since HEPA filters and activated carbon filters serve different purposes, activated carbon filtration was used as an additional odor-control solution, while the H14 HEPA filter remained focused on particulate filtration.

Project Application
The FFU and H14 HEPA filtration system provides a modular solution for the food testing laboratory, combining:
- Ceiling-mounted filtered-air supply
- H14 high-efficiency particulate filtration
- Flexible FFU distribution
- Additional activated carbon filtration for odor-related concerns
This type of configuration can also be considered for food laboratories, poultry processing facilities, food testing areas, and other controlled indoor environments where high-efficiency air filtration is required.
